Indian River Lagoon Day: The cities of Melbourne, Palm Bay and Satellite Beach, and the Brevard County Natural Resources Management Department invite you to join us for Indian River Lagoon Day, a fun-filled day focused on celebrating the Indian River Lagoon. The event will take place on Saturday, November 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Front Street Park, 2210 Front Street, Melbourne. Admission is free.

Environmental exhibitors will be on hand to showcase a variety of available volunteer opportunities in restoration activities, educational efforts and citizen-science projects. Free kayaking will be provided by Adventure Kayak of Cocoa Beach. Food trucks, arts and craft vendors, bounce house and activities for children will also be available.

A Hook Kids on Fishing clinic will take place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Kids participating in the clinic will each receive a fishing rod and gear. Advanced registration is required. Sign up online at www.anglersforconservation.org. For gardeners, rain barrel workshops will be held from 11 a.m. until noon. Participants will be able to construct and take home a free rain barrel. Only 20 are available and first-come, first-served basis. Registration will be conducted at the festival that morning.

Guided Hike at Sam’s House: Join our Master Naturalist, Mark Prynoski at Sam’s House, located at 6195 N Tropical Trail in Merritt Island, on a hike through the Sams House Trails. Please wear closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, a hat and bring water.

Suntree Elementary Fall Festival: Suntree Elementary, located at 900 Jordan Blass Drive in Melbourne, will host their Fall Festival on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is free to enter with ticket and wristband sales. Activities will include Ninja Warrior games, inflatable, silent auctions, carnival games and more! Several food options will be available for purchase. Wristband prices vary from $15-20. Annual Love of Life Festival: The First Annual Love of Life Festival will be held at Melbourne’s Local Moose Lodge (157 Dayton Blvd.) on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The charity event will be hosted and organized by Olivia Romer, a senior at Melbourne High School where she will be gathering donations for Mooseheart, a residential childcare facility for children and teenagers in need. The festival will be open to children and their parents and grandparents! It will be a day filled with fun, food, games, prizes, toys, and 50/50 raffles every hour. Eastern Florida State College Preview Night: Eastern Florida State College will host a virtual Parent Preview Night event on Tuesday, November 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Parent participants will gain valuable information about early admissions, the Dual Enrollment program and Advanced Standing Credit programs, as well as an introduction to the rigors of college coursework. The online event will provide in-depth information about the highlighted programs, including their benefits and the general processes to get public, private and home-schooled students enrolled. United in Thanksgiving: In the run up to America’s big holiday, members from 25 Brevard faith organizations and traditions will come together for a celebration of gratitude on Sunday, November 21 at 3:00 p.m. at New Shiloh Christian Center in Melbourne, 3900 Sarno Road, to reflect on the blessings of America. Centered on gratitude, the event will focus on affirming shared values and the desire for deeper cultural understanding. The fourth United in Thanksgiving program will feature readings by diverse faith leaders and youth representatives addressing themes of Love, Forgiveness and Unity. Live music from participating faith organizations will include a praise band, string ensemble, Hawaiian flutes and vocalists. The event will conclude with all those in attendance singing, “Draw the Circle Wide.” Believers and seekers of all faiths from the general public are welcome to attend the one hour United in Thanksgiving event; hundreds are expected. His father, a military pilot, began teaching John to fly at only 15. John learned to fly a plane before he could drive a car.
