Plainview Area Retired School Personnel Association (PARSPA) will meet Nov. 8 at 11:45 a.m. at the Plainview Adult Activity Center, 1107 Smyth St. The program will be presented by Neysa Carmichael and her therapy dog. Those interested in attending must RSVP by Nov. 3 by calling or texting Betsy Lewis at 806-729-9110 so there will be an accurate meal count. Cost of the meal is $8 and it’s optional. The program will begin at noon. Retirees are invited to join. PARSPA includes retirees from Floydada, Lockney, Hale Center, and Plainview. Dues can be paid to Marla Howard at the meeting. This year’s meetings will include games. If you have children’s books to donate to our group for redistribution to schools, new teachers and students, please bring them to the meeting.

 


Hello Baby will host a ribbon cutting at its new location (509 Broadway) on Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.

 

Local leaders will celebrate the new City Hall location, 202 W. 5th Street, on Nov. 9. There will be an open house and tours of the new facility from 3:30-5:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting set for 5 p.m.

 

There will be a trick-or-truck event at Kidsville on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

 

The Covenant Health Gala is set for Nov. 6 at the McCrory Event Complex.

 

Plainview Austin Heights Empowerment And Development (Plainview AHEAD) is hosting its annual Walter Griffin Street Toy Drive from now through Dec. 1. The toys collected will be delivered to local children on Dec. 12 at the community’s annual Christmas party. Those interested in donating are asked to give an unopened toy for a boy or a girl. Donations can be dropped off at Austin Heights Community Center, 1811 Walter Griffin Street, Plainview, Texas 79072. The American Watercolor Society 154th International Awards Exhibition will be on display at the Abraham Art Gallery Malouf Abraham Family Art Center of Wayland Baptist University. The exhibit features work by award-winning artists from around the world and it will be on display through Oct. 27. Catalogs are available at the gallery desk for a $10 donation to go towards the Art Scholarship Fund. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 2-5 p.m. Those interested in scheduling a group tour can call (806)291-3710. Tickets are on sale for the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas live performance set for Dec. 29, 2021 at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences in Lubbock. Ballet Lubbock is preparing to perform “The Nutcracker” at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences in December. The show, presented by Market Street, is set for Dec. 9 through Dec. 12. Tickets to the show go on sale for the general public on Oct. 25. Friends of the Ballet have early access and can purchase tickets now. The Plainview Professional Firefighter’s Association is selling tickets through the end of October to raise money for a local non-profit cancer organization in Plainview. The association is selling shirts sizes small to extra large with a choice of short sleeve or long sleeves. Kids sizes and sizes bigger than XL are available but will need to be ordered. All sizes are $16 each. T-shirts can be purchased from Carlos Martinez by calling (806)685-5193 or from any other member of the fire department. Those interested in a purchase can also visit Fire Station 3 at 3405 SW Third Street. Payments can be accepted via Venmo @Plainview-fire or they can be made with cash or a check.

 

Vista Bank is hosting a drive for items to create stockings and then stuff them send them to United States military members overseas. The drive will benefit the South Plains area through all Vista Bank locations. The deadline to drop off items is Nov. 8. Bank locations are collecting: candy, handmade Christmas stockings, blank Christmas cards, Christmas cards addressed to soldiers, small toiletries, decks of cards, golf tees, small games and sandwich size baggies. They are also collecting items to create stockings including: jeans (worn out are fine), Christmas fabric, yarn, thread, crochet thread, scissors, pins and sewing needles. Covenant Health will host a support group for those living with diabetes. The free meetings will be held once a month on Tuesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. at the Covenant Health LifeStyle Centre, which located on the top floor of the east parking garage off 21st and Knoxville. Dates for next meetings are Nov. 16, Dec. 21 and Jan. 18. The meetings are led by participants in the group and will feature appearances by industry experts such as dentists, fitness specialists and certified diabetes educations. Single ticket sales for the Broadway at The Buddy Holly Hall Series are now on sale. The series includes: “An Officer and a Gentleman” on Jan. 11-12; “Beautiful – The Carole King Musical” on Feb. 8-9; “Jersey Boys” on April 4-5; and “Anastasia” on June 20-21. The season’s add-on or swap-a-show option will be “Rent 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour” Show.

 

Covenant Medical Group will again offer its free Covenant Sports Medicine Injury Clinic this season. The clinic will run from 9 to 11 a.m. every Saturday through Nov. 6 at Health Plus, 7601 Quaker Ave. The clinic is for injured athletes of all ages.

The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences will the 2021 KLOVE Christmas on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature a lineup of five musical acts, including CASTING CROWNS, Mac Powell, CAIN, Dante Bowe and Jordan St. Cyr.
